Both the (+) and (-) ends of a circuit experience the same amount of load which is dictated by the resistance of the circuit. The ground line in the OEM harness is a thinner gauge of wire than the feed lines which is what Don was speaking to. That is the wire that runs hotter than the (+) power line as a result - in this case the smaller wire is dissipating more power because of its higher internal resistance trying to feed a circuit with lower resistance than its own.
